We were commissioned to deliver both properties for members of the same family. One was built for a client who subsequently sold the property and later returned to us to build his new contemporary Passive House, a repeat relationship that reflects the trust placed in our workmanship and approach to delivering highly individual homes. Although these properties have all the benefits of modern, high-performance construction, their architecture was deliberately designed to respect the character and heritage of the Welbeck Estate. Traditional proportions, steep rooflines, rendered elevations and carefully considered detailing allow the houses to feel established within their surroundings rather than appearing like conventional modern new builds. Behind that traditional appearance is a thoroughly modern building. Constructed using ICF, the homes benefit from a highly insulated, robust and energy-efficient building envelope. This was combined with underfloor heating and mechanical ventilation to provide excellent thermal performance, efficiency and year-round comfort. Internally, the specification and level of craftsmanship were equally important. These were completely bespoke homes, incorporating cinema rooms, individually designed kitchens, high-specification bathrooms, bespoke joinery and carefully considered finishes throughout. Attention to detail was fundamental at every stage. From the structure and external envelope through to the final internal finishes, the objective was to create homes that felt genuinely individual rather than simply high-specification versions of a standard new build. The completed properties have a real presence. They stand proudly within their setting and immediately command attention, combining the appearance and character of traditional estate architecture with the performance, comfort and luxury expected from a modern bespoke home. The project also demonstrates something central to our approach at Weir Construction Group: high-performance construction does not dictate architectural style. Modern methods such as ICF can be used to create anything from traditional country homes such as these to striking contemporary Passive Houses. Most importantly, our relationship with the client continued beyond this project.
