# Architect-Designed Passive House
Repeat Client Project · Complete

Designed from the outset as a Passive House, this striking contemporary home was delivered for a repeat client with an uncompromising focus on energy efficiency, airtightness, year-round comfort and architectural quality.

Finished externally in Accoya timber cladding, the home combines a highly insulated and exceptionally airtight building envelope with high-performance glazing, MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery), underfloor heating, an air-source heat pump and solar PV.

At the heart of the project is a fabric-first approach. Rather than simply adding renewable technology to a conventional house, Passive House design focuses first on the performance of the building itself: carefully considered insulation, exceptional airtightness, high-performance windows and doors, and the reduction of thermal bridging all work together to dramatically minimise unwanted heat loss.

The result is an incredibly stable and comfortable internal environment throughout the year: warm and cosy during the winter, comfortable and cool during the summer, with a continuous supply of fresh, filtered air throughout the home.

Because so little energy is lost through the building fabric, the demand for heating is significantly reduced. Combined with the air-source heat pump, underfloor heating and solar PV, the result is a highly efficient home designed to deliver exceptional comfort with much lower energy demand.

As energy efficiency, carbon reduction and long-term running costs become increasingly important, we believe high-performance construction such as this represents an important part of the future of residential building.

For Weir Construction Group, building a Passive House isn't simply about meeting a specification. It requires attention to detail at every stage of construction, particularly around airtightness, insulation continuity, junctions, penetrations and the building envelope. These are details that ultimately determine how the finished home performs.

This project demonstrates what can be achieved when great architecture, skilled construction and building performance are considered together from the outset.
